The task of writing a business plan can be daunting, sure enough. Once you've purchased the business plan software or business plan template, it is easy to sit and stare at it wondering, "where do I start?"
Here's my recommendation. First, start with the Mission Statement. The Mission Statement is your company's reason for being, it's raison detre. Once you have nailed this, understanding how your business will meet it's market's needs will become clearer.
Second, create your financial statements, specifically the Pro Forma Income Statement. Project your sales, cost of goods sold, and expenses out for two years. The questions that come from this exercise will help you start to focus on the rest of the plan.
So, whether you're just starting out or have been in business for 10 years, it's time to write your business plan. Now, you know where to start!
